Why is american football called football? when they only ever kick the ball like once in a blue moon, and call another sport which requires 95% of the game kicking a ball, something stupid like soccer? I just don't get it...

I just don't get it...You have to kick the ball more often then you think + it doesnt matter what is called how. I presonaly prefer american football because it's just a bit more exciting IMO.
